The launch was in June 2002 at the initiative of sixty producer organizations (POs) representatives from all over the country. The idea of this Council was born under the impetus on the one hand, of a recognition of the organizations failure obtaining results, and moreover, a need of producers to participate actively in the formulation of development policies, contributing to the fight against poverty and for development of agro-forestry-pastoral activities.

The Council is organized in a general assembly (5 members per region), the national executive office (15 members elected for 4 years), monitoring committee (3 members elected for 4 years).

Its main goal is to ensure a sustainable socio-economic and cultural development to rural producers. Therefore, it provides:

• To coordinate the actions of the rural producer organizations;
• Supporting the rural producer organizations defining its strategic directions;
• To defend the material and moral interests of the members;
• To strengthen the capabilities of POs members;
• Encourage exchanges among PO at national, subregional and international levels;
• To promote family farming;
• Promoting solidarity among rural producer organizations members

Considering the difficulties, realities, and the specificities of Chad, CNCPRT want to see a new peasant agriculture, entrepreneurial, modernized, sustainable and assuming their economic, social, cultural and environmental duties.

To this end, CNCPRT developed a strategy of intervention aimed on the development of a partnership among the actors of rural milieu, based on a convergence of views on the key issues related to the environment of producer organizations and sustainable development in rural areas.
